THEATRE SCHOOL SEARCHING FOR NEW TALENT

Could your child be tomorrow’s big acting sensation?

An award-winning Glasgow-based theatre school has launched its search for new students who could become Scotland’s stars of tomorrow.

UKTheatreSchool in the city’s West Regent Street invites talented 4-18 year–olds to submit video auditions before the deadline of Friday, October 16.

Those successful candidates will start evening/weekend courses focusing on the performing arts in January, 2021. They’ll also be included in the school’s exclusive in-house casting agency which works with some of the country’s biggest casting directors to secure performing roles for students.

As a result of training and castings opportunities arising over the years, the school’s students have had some amazing experiences working alongside some of the biggest names in the industry including Michael Buble, Rod Stewart, Rihanna, Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Colin Firth, James McAvoy, Halle Berry, David Walliams, David Tennant and Kylie Minogue.

School principal Lizanne Lambie Thomson said: “Usually we stage an open audition day to meet talented young people keen to explore their performing arts potential. Due to current restrictions, we’re inviting video submissions and there may also be callback auditions too. Our spring video auditions callout attracted more than 100 young people and the energy was simply amazing.

“We believe we can help our students achieve their dreams and ambitions – and why shouldn’t they be nominated for an Oscar one day? One of our former students Daniel Kerr won a BAFTA in 2013 for his part in The Wee Man movie. At the time – aged 12 – he made Scottish film history as he was the youngest winner of the prestigious award. Daniel has gone on to appear in films and hit TV shows including Dr Who and Doctors.”

As well as obtaining theatre, movie, TV and radio work, the school’s castings agency also works to secure advert roles for its talented students. The youngsters have appeared in a string of ads for big-name clients such as John Lewis, Aldi, Vodaphone, RBS, NatWest, Skoda, KFC, Clydesdale Bank, Legoland, Virgin Media, TK Maxx, Scottish Government, Kindle. ScotRail, SNP and many more.

Lizanne described her school’s dedicated teaching staff as “trained to a very high standard” and added: “Many of our staff have gained their degrees and Master degrees at prestigious, further educational establishments like The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, and The Royal Academy of Music.  I thrive on finding the right teams of creatives to work together on our curriculums, events, shows and projects for our talented young students. Our tutors are industry professionals sharing their continued professional experiences with our students and this proves very inspirational.”

As well as increased cleaning processes and an abundance of hand sanitiser stations to meet current Covid safety regulations the school has installed a draft of measures including state-of-the-art electronic temperature scanners, anti-bacterial fogging machines and high-end air purifying units throughout their seven studios and reception areas.
