World Book Day Emergency? No Problem

It’s the day before World Book Day and if you’ve left it to the last minute to try and pull something together (even though you promised you would definitely be more organised this year) don’t panic! We’ve all been there!

We’ve pulled together some of the easiest World Book Day Costumes Ever so your kids can join in the fun and you can get back in their good books!

  1. The Witch from ‘Room on the Broom’.

The Witch from Julia Donaldson’s brilliant book is an easy one   ̶  all you’ve got to do is recycle an old witch costume from Halloween, plait the hair and draw a wart on the end of the nose. If you’ve a toy cat, dog and bird to add along with your little one, then all the better. If you don’t have a toy broom then finish the look off  by making her recognisable wand out of leftover cardboard.

  1. The Boy in the Dress

Dennis from David Walliam’s debut ‘The Boy in the Dress’ has a very distinct (and easy) look. All you need is an orange dress (top and skirt will also do) football socks and boots. Simple!

  1. Matilda

The title character from Roald Dahl’s classic is a World Book Day favourite and it’s no wonder because it’s another easy one. She wears a blue dress, a red ribbon in her hair and carries a book. You can’t ask for simpler than that!

  1. Captain Underpants

Now before you raise your eyebrows at this suggestion, we’re not telling you to send your kids out in just their pants and a cape in March so they can look like the hero from the Dav Pilkey series. You could however get your little one to put white underpants over their trousers and put on a red cape. If Superman can get away with wearing his underwear over tights, then it’s good enough for us.

  1. Gansta Granny

Inspiration from another David Walliam’s book and another easy peasy costume.  All that’s needed for this is a jumper, long skirt and a black eye mask. Throw in a ‘loot’ bag for them to carry over their shoulder and you’re finished.

  1. Harry and his Bucket full of Dinosaurs

Ian Whybrow’s character, Harry, is an ordinary kid who just happens to have a magical bucket full of dinosaurs. For the costume all you’ll need is: jeans, an orange and yellow top and a bucket filled with toy dinosaurs. Less than five minutes to put together and you’re done.

Forget fancy costumes. All you’ve got to do is get creative, think outside the box and most importantly have fun with it!
