Unplug from Social Media this May

Scotland’s National Children’s Charity, Children First are calling on supporters across Scotland to help protect children from online harm by joining On-Mute May, the charity’s digital detox challenge.

Supported by Judy Murray OBE, the campaign came about through children telling the charity they’re increasingly worried about the impact of harmful online content and social media, this campaign is a powerful way for adults to step in, switch off and make a real difference.

Recent research from Children First shows that harmful online content is the biggest threat children and young people say they face, with 79% worried about encountering dangerous content and 78% anxious about the impact of social media on their lives. Children can’t protect themselves online, they need us to step in.

Judy Murray said: “By taking a break from social media in May, you’re not just supporting your own wellbeing, you’re helping protect Scotland’s children.”

She is encouraging supporters to swap screen time for getting active, reconnecting, and spending quality time together.

From 1-31 May, you choose the challenge: go cold turkey, cut your screen time in half, or take weekends offline. However you take part, every scroll skipped helps raise vital funds to support children and families recovering from online harm.

Entry is £25, with no minimum sponsorship.

This May, go on mute and make your time really count.
