International Day of Friendship

Today (Wednesday 30 July) marks International Day of Friendship, a date recognised internationally, with celebrations and activities taking place across the world.

Friendship plays a crucial role in promoting trust, empathy and mutual respect among people of all ages. Celebrating this day highlights the value of relationships in overcoming misunderstandings, reducing conflict, and building more inclusive societies.

In a world that can often feel divided, World Friendship Day is a powerful reminder of our shared humanity and the difference we can make by reaching out and supporting one another.

How to Get Involved:

  • Start a conversation with your kids about what friendship means to them.
  • Perhaps your kids might want to reach out to a friend today, make them a gift, tell them something positive or simply have a play date!
  • With school on the horizon chat to your children about how they can make their peers feel welcome when school starts.
  • Childhood is a good chance to practise how to make friends, how to keep friends, and how to get through some of the high and lows of making and keeping friends. Let your kids know that fall-outs with friends is normal and all part of learning.
  • Reach out to your own friends by sending a thoughtful message, give them a call or arrange a get-together.
  • Why not plan a picnic with your friends and their kids, everyone could bring a snack and arrange a day that suits for some connection.
  • Support an organisation which promotes friendship, inclusion and cross-cultural understanding.
  • Share positive friendship. messages across social media to spread feel-good stories about friendship.
