Are your pupils aware of the risks associated with online gaming, in-game spending and gambling-style features?
With almost nine in ten children aged three to 17 playing video games, understanding the digital world has never been more important.
Ygam, the UK education charity dedicated to preventing gaming and gambling harms, is offering FREE CPD-certified training to help Scottish teachers recognise risks, support pupils and create safer digital environments.
Why Does This Matter?
Gaming can be a positive experience, encouraging creativity, problem-solving and friendships. However, children are increasingly exposed to features such as loot boxes, virtual currencies, in-game purchases and gambling-related advertising.
Research highlighted by Ygam found that:
- More than half of parents had noticed gambling-style features in their children’s games.
- More than a third said their children spent money within games.
- 79% of 11–17-year-olds had seen or heard gambling advertising or promotion, according to the Gambling Commission’s 2025 survey.
Teachers play an important role in helping young people understand these risks and make informed choices.
What Will You Learn?
Ygam’s FREE CPD-certified workshops help teachers:
- Understand gaming, gambling and associated digital risks.
- Recognise potential warning signs of harm.
- Confidently discuss online safety with pupils.
- Respond to concerns and signpost appropriate support.
- Use practical, age-appropriate classroom activities.
