Storm Boelo is set to bring powerful winds to Scotland this weekend, with gusts reaching 80mph as forecasters escalate their weather warnings.
The storm, the second to be named this season, is expected to arrive on Saturday, following heavy rainfall brought by Storm Austen on Friday.
The Met Office has upgraded its earlier yellow wind warning, which was due to remain in place from midday on Saturday until 9pm on Sunday, to an amber alert.
The warning covers mainland Scotland and the Western Isles from 9pm on Saturday until 9pm on Sunday. Forecasters caution that flying debris could cause injuries and pose a danger to life.
A number of family events and outdoor attractions across Scotland have shut or been cancelled this weekend (24–25 October) as poor weather and amber warnings bring the risk of disruption.
Cancelled Family & Outdoor Events
Pumpkin Adventures at Callendar Park (Falkirk)
Guided Fungi Walk, Autumn Family Day, and Guided Tree Walk at Hopetoun House (South Queensferry/Edinburgh area)

Youth Football Matches: Around 750 children’s football games across parts of Scotland have also been disrupted or cancelled due to weather and local disciplinary/safety reviews
