Performing Together at Edinburgh Fringe

by Camille Lizé

I came to Scotland filled with excitement, but the Edinburgh Fringe Festival exceeded all my expectations—and by far. The streets are teeming with people and artists from all over the world. High Street and Royal Mile offer the best view with Edinburgh’s Castle at their top, but you can find someone dancing, singing or even practising circus arts in every corner of every street.

However, what really surprised me and made me fall in love with the Fringe is its diversity. Everyone is welcomed here, and I was lucky enough to discover so many different shows.

From neurodivergent young people musicals to choirs ran by people of all ages, from the performance venues to the cobblestones of the streets, from the five stars best seller shows to more amateur ones, the Fringe has something for everybody.

Both tourists and locals; both performers and public melt together to create a joyful, colourful and brilliant crowd.

I would recommend the Fringe Festival to anyone who enjoys diversity and art in all its forms. The Fringe Festival supports and celebrates all kind of artists, and allows you to observe mankind at its best: performing, all together.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is one of the greatest celebrations of arts and culture on the planet. For three weeks in August, the city of Edinburgh welcomes an explosion of creative energy from around the globe. Artists and performers take to hundreds of stages all over the city, presenting shows for every taste.

Venues can be anywhere, from existing theatres and concert halls to repurposed spaces like bars, parks, buses and shipping containers. The Fringe street events bring colour, excitement and vibrancy to outdoor areas, free of charge.

From big names in the world of entertainment to unknown artists looking to build their careers, the festival spans every genre of live performance, including theatre, comedy, dance, physical theatre, circus, cabaret, children’s shows, musicals, opera, music, spoken word, exhibitions and events.
