Kirkintilloch Canal Festival 2019 takes place from August 26 to September 1 with another swashbuckling mix of aquatic activities, culture, sport and family fun. This year, activities will be held to mark the centenary of Kirkintilloch’s Rita Cowan– the ‘Mother of Japanese Whisky’ meeting husband- to-be Masataka Taketsuru. Story Week (26-30 Aug):Canal cruises (storytelling, whisky tasting, bubbles & breakfast, and fish tea) and traditional Japanese pottery sessions. Get Active Saturday (31 Aug): Including opening of Annual Art Exhibition, puppetshow, climbing wall, archery, canoeing, rollerskating,mask making, Origami, Japanese dance and more.There will also be live performances by Clanadoniaand the Dojo Drummers, the Saturday evening concert and firework spectacular and more. Gala Sunday (1 Sep): Including classic cars, street theatre, stalls, live music, funfair, canal cruises, 1950s Jump ‘n’Jive at the Auld Kirk Museum, free family activities, family silent disco at Kirkintilloch Town Hall and more.
