Revolution: How the Bicycle Reinvented Modern Britain

At the end of the 19th Century, a piece of technology emerged that surpassed all others in generating levels of excitement, discussion and controversy. That grand innovation? The ‘Dandy Horse’, the velocipede, the boneshaker – the bicycle. Cycling expert Will Manners delves deep into the social history of cycling in 1890s Britain, while exploring international parallels across Europe, the US and Australia.

The Life Cycle – Biodiversity Bike Ride

In 2017/18 Kate Rawles rode the length of South America on ‘Woody’ a bicycle made of bamboo that she built herself. From Colombia to Cape Horn, (or as close as you can get to it on a bike). Kate and Woody – the UK’s first ‘home-grown bicycle’ – travelled for 8288 miles following the spine of the Andes through an astonishing variety of landscapes and ecosystems. From zero to 200 miles of cycle route: 40 years of cycle campaigning
