I have to admit that reading Kerry Thomson’s lovely words about the emotions we all go through when our little ones start school (page 12), did make my eyes go a little watery. My youngest has just taken off on his next big adventure too and a part of the mummy in me is sad that he won’t need me by his side so much any longer. But I also know that they can’t stay small forever and remind myself that these milestone moments also make the best childhood memories to treasure.
The MMR vaccination was a hot topic of debate amongst us parents a few years ago and on page 8, author Melissa Hill discusses the inspiration behind her new novel on the subject and reveals why she too had concerns before she permitted her child to receive the vaccine.
We also have some real treats inside this autumn issue for you. As the new series begins, former Great British Bake Off contestant Martha Collison shares some of her most delicious recipes for those very special family occasions (page 11), and I chat to former Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen about his favourite treat, and new picture book, Chocolate Cake on page 7. But while we all sometimes crave a sugar rush, do you agree with some health professionals that cigarette-style warnings of images of children with tooth decay should be placed on sweet wrappers? We asked parents their opinion about the idea on page 6.
Have an awesome autumn.
