Letter from the editor

Wow! Where did this school year go? The flurry of end-of-term activities; summer fair, prize giving – and of course shopping for that all-important ‘thank you teacher’ gift – makes the start of the summer holidays race up quicker than a P7 on Sports Day. But amongst all the fun and games, and the exciting anticipation of classroom-free days, there is always a little sadness as some children say goodbye forever to their primary school. To the pupils starting a new chapter of their lives at the end of the holidays, good luck and enjoy your new school.

Unsurprisingly this issue we’ve got festival fever! Check out our guide to the very best family entertainment at this year’s Fringe on pages 12 to 15, and our suggestions for what the coolest fest kids will be wearing on page 4. I find out how to keep their self-esteem flying high with child psychiatrist Dr Holan Liang (page 6) and family finance expert Chris Bryans warns us why no parent should opt-out of registering for Child Benefit on page 7.

But wait folks, that’s not all… we have so much more to tempt you! Nutrition expert Vanessa Clarkson serves up delicious real food recipes for the entire family (no matter what their age) on page 11, our Crafty Kids activities on page 10 will entertain them for hours and with our bumper fun What’s On Guide to get you all out and about – that’s summer sorted.
