Our children really want to save the planet! New research from Explore Learning has found that pollution is our children’s biggest worry for the future, followed by the extinction of animals and rising sea levels.
In the UK-wide survey of 1,000 children aged four to 14, eighty seven per cent said they believe that ‘saving the environment’ should be taught in schools, and over one third (38%) said they were very concerned about the future of the environment revealing a strong urge amongst our children to educate themselves fully about the damage we are causing, and a desire to change our habits in order to put things right for their future.
So as parents how can we help and do better for Mother Earth? Leading by example and making a few simple changes to our lifestyle, such as changing how we shop, thinking more about the products we do buy, and how we dispose of the waste (recycle more) are small steps which can make a huge difference and will show our kids we really care too…
Fresh From The Farm
We love spring! This bright and uplifting season gives us longer days, warmer weather and blooming trees, not to mention a fresh range of produce to enjoy. Behind us are the days of heavy winter
stews and hearty pies. Spring greens, sweet berries and seasonal meat and fish make way for renewed inspiration in the kitchen.
With an abundance of seasonal ingredients to behold, there’s no better place than the Edinburgh Farmers’ Market to discover the best food that Scotland has to offer! Market-goers can take full advantage of opportunities for fresh flavours and new recipes. Not only can you rest easy knowing that your food hasn’t travelled far and will taste fantastic, but you’re also supporting Scottish farmers – the champions of fresh and local produce. Does it get any better than that?
Knowing what to buy doesn’t have to be difficult. There are some great resources available like Greener Scotland and Love Food Hate Waste that offer a wealth of advice as well as plenty of
inspiring and seasonal recipes. Perhaps the best resource of all is the farmers themselves. So don’t be shy and come along to the market for a friendly chat.
