Letter from the editor

Ho Ho Ho! The countdown to ‘you know what’ has begun and we’ve almost reached the end of another year full of memories. Thanks to all the hardworking elves in the S4K office we’ve delivered a winter edition stuffed as full as Santa’s sack and I have the exciting job of revealing what’s inside for parents this issue…

If we could give you one present from us for 2017 it would be a perfect life/work balance. Some may say it is the impossible-to-give gift, however on page 6 Nadim Saad has some really useful ideas of how to use the relationship skills we develop in the workplace, to create a more harmonious lifestyle at home. And to help you on your merry way towards a tasty festive season, but still leaving you plenty of time for Christmas shopping, bestselling author Jo Pratt has some delicious family dinner ideas that can be ready in a flash on page 12.

As it’s the season of giving, on page 14 we have some suggestions for presents which can help teach your child about thinking of more than what’s in their own stocking, and on page 15 mum Rebecca McAlister is asking if perhaps we could all show some patience and goodwill to children with autism this December?

To celebrate the DVD release of one of the most fabulous family movies of the year, The BFG, I chat to its young star Ruby Barnhill about her favourite Roald Dahl books, Gobblefunk and Steven Spielberg (page 8) and as it’s Christmas time we have an extra special competition bundle for you so don’t forget to enter!

On behalf of the entire S4K team, Merry Christmas and see you in 2017…
